What's New for 2011?

The 2011 season is bringing some exciting changes to our program. Please read below for a general overview.

  • Registration opens June 1st
    • All registration is online.
    • We have an extra discount for the first 2 weeks of $20. This discount is to offset the potential cost to parents for our decision to change our game pant color from blue to white.
    • Late registration makes it very difficult to manage our team sizes. In 2010, late registration caused us to have two less teams that we could have if we knew about the player count. It also caused us to have teams with greater than two rotations. In 2011, we will monitor and stop registrations after August 1st on a grade by grade basis so as to not allow our team player count to exceed two rotations per team.
  • OYF joins USA Football
    • Coaching
      • OYF will have 2 coaches from each team take training courses
    • Team page
      • Coaches can provide outlines for practice, plays, etc.
    • Player/Parents
      • Everyone will have access to skills and training techniques online. This will allow parents to work with your kids outside of practice and know the fundamentals of the skills and techniques.
  • New game pants for 2011
    • OYF has decided to transition to white game pants. The primary reason is availability. Any color pant is allow at practices so you can use your existing pants.
    • We have provided a reduction in registration for the first two weeks to help offset this white pant cost.
  • Equipment Fit Days
    • We will have General Sports on site June 1st and July 13th for kids to try on gear. If you are comfortable with sizing, all orders can be done online.
    • We will also have spirit wear available. Profits from the spirit wear will go to support the Orono Football Boosters.
  • Affiliation with the Orono Football Boosters
    • You already noticed the revision to our website. We have worked to better align OYF and the Booster programs. We want our youth players to know and participate in the HS program as much as possible. We also look to the HS players to mentor our youth.
    • We will work together to provide all families better communication and news letters, etc.

New Home Page for Orono Youth Football

With the addition of Orono Football Boosters to the website, this page is now the Home page for Orono Youth Football.

Migration is taking place the week of May 9th. We appreciate your patience during the transition on the website. All former pages exist during the move but you may need to look between this home page and the Home page on the top navigation page until the move is finished.

FAQ for the beginning of the year

As we approach the season, here are some FAQ

Q.  When does practice start?

A.  OYF follows the MN high school schedule. First practice is Monday August 15. Each team will determine its own practice schedule. Typical days are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. Most teams will practice at least 3 days a week. Typical weekday start time for August is 6:00.

Q.  When are tryouts? What team is my son on?

A.  We use the first week of practice to evaluate the players. Team draft takes place by the coaches around the end of the first week of practice.

Q.  When is the equipment hand out?

A.  There is no equipment to hand out. The list of equipment to be supplied by parents is listed on the website and should be brought to the first practice.

Q.  Can I specify a team or friend for my son to play?

A.  No. We only work to create equal teams based on coach evaluations. Additional requests can not be managed.

Game/Practice Status for Weather

Information regarding practice will be each team's coach decision.  Any practice or game  is automatically cancelled/delayed in the event of lightening for a period of 30 minutes following last lightening. In cases of wet fields, practice location may vary within the general area behind the high school in order to maintain the condition of the game fields.

Many of the fields can handle the wet weather we have seen in recent weeks. Do not assume a game is cancelled for rain at 4:00. Expect a game to be on unless you hear from a coach or read it on this page of the website.

How To Add People to Receive Email Notifications

If you want to add email addresses to your player's account, see this link. Make sure you add the email to the same account used in registration or it will not work.

New Concussion Law

  • Team pages
    • Online coach tools
      • Practice schedules
      • Drill techniques and video sample
